Less than a year ago Mawson Lakes Soccer Club was just an idea floating around in my head, and since then we have developed into an exciting and promising exciting amateur soccer club comprised of over 40 players, coaches and volunteers. As MLSC embarks on its history making inaugural season, I’d just like to thank all those who made it all possible.
Firstly, a massive thanks to all the players who have come out and joined us for our first ever season. All your enthusiasm, commitment and support so far has been brilliant and has made all the hard work worth it! Being our first ever year, it won’t always be smooth sailing as we find our feet in the league but you’ve shown patience, trust and understanding in us and it’s truly appreciated. You really are a great bunch of guys and every one of you are valued and important members of the club. All going well we’ll be playing home games at the new Mawson Lakes Sports Precinct off ML Boulevard from next year onwards.
Secondly, I want to thank all the committee members who have put their hands up to sacrifice hours of their own time in commitment to the club. They attend meetings every two weeks, put forward their ideas, show great enthusiasm and do brilliant work in helping to run the club and its affairs, all on a volunteer basis.MLSC would have been impossible without their help, so a huge thanks goes out to them! None of us have actually run a soccer club before, so we’re learning as we go along, but things have been going great so far thanks to all their efforts and hard work.
Thirdly, a big thanks to our coaches Marian and Kevin, who also give up hours of their time to share their valuable knowledge and experience with us, and who train us every week and organise us at games. They could have joined any of the longer established clubs in the league but they came to MLSC. Marian with over 20 years SAASL experience has been with the club since we just a bunch of guys kicking a ball at the park, and Kevin also has a wealth of expertise and has brought his two talented lads to the club as well.
And speaking of families, thanks to all our girlfriends, wives, fiances and others who put up with our love of soccer and even come out and support the team.
And finally, thanks to our sponsors Kamikazee Disposals, Mawson Lakes Hotel and Function Centre, Modbury Press and CD Power, whom without their sponsorship and support, this would not have been possible. Let’s hope we can add some more sponsors to the ranks next year.
MLSC is entirely not for profit and is 100% run by volunteers. We are the first club to represent Mawson Lakes (the biggest suburb in Adelaide). I’m wrapped with how succesful and popular the club has become so far and it’s thanks to all of you.
Looking forward to a great first season in the South Australian Amateur Soccer League!
